Welcome to VAV Magazine’s Submissions page! We are always on the lookout for innovative, bold voices that align with our mission of showcasing the best in urban poetry, politics, and stories from the people. Whether you’re an established writer or a new talent, we want to hear from you!

Types of Submissions

At VAV Magazine, we welcome a variety of content that aligns with our mission of spotlighting urban poetry, political discourse, and personal narratives. Below are the types of submissions we’re looking for:

Poetry

We seek urban, contemporary, and spoken word poetry that challenges, inspires, and evokes emotion. Submissions can include up to 3 poems that reflect urban life, politics, or personal experiences.

Political Commentary

We invite articles that provide thoughtful analysis of current political events and social issues, with a focus on the intersection of politics and marginalized communities. Word limit: 800-1500 words.

Opinion Pieces

We welcome opinion-driven essays that address current topics in society and culture, offering fresh perspectives on ongoing conversations. Word limit: 800-1200 words.

Personal Stories

Share your personal experiences and insights with us, highlighting unique journeys, struggles, and triumphs that reflect real-world challenges and victories. Word limit: 600-1200 words.

Podcasts

If you host a podcast that aligns with our themes of poetry, politics, or people, submit a brief description and episode links. We spotlight podcasts that bring meaningful conversation to the forefront.

Visual Art

Submissions of photography, illustrations, or other visual media are welcome. Artwork should complement our themes, capturing the essence of urban life, politics, and the human experience. Submit up to 5 pieces.

Please email your submissions to submissions@vavmag.org, ensuring that the subject line clearly states the category (e.g., Poetry, Political Commentary, Opinion Pieces, Podcasts, Political Commentary, Visual Art) for efficient review.

Submission Guidelines

Please adhere to the following guidelines when submitting:

Guidelines

  • Submissions should be in .doc, .docx, or .pdf format for written content, and .jpeg or .png for artwork.
  • Poetry submissions: maximum 3 poems.
  • Articles: 800-1500 words.
  • Include a brief bio and headshot with your submission.

Review Process

Our editorial team carefully reviews all submissions and will notify you within 4-6 weeks regarding the status of your piece. If selected, we may request edits or clarifications.

Compensation

At this time, submissions are unpaid. However, your work will be featured prominently on our website and social media, reaching a wide audience of engaged readers.
